Edge Of The Seat Romance Thriller Novels You Have To Read

The thriller genre, I believe, is the reason the book industry is getting the hype it has always deserved. The main reason many people choose thrillers as their first choice when they begin reading is that, subconsciously, we know thrillers can get anyone hooked from the first page to the last.

Once you start reading any thriller novel, you get lustful to know what is going to happen next. They grip us tight to the story as we start to get excited to know what is in the room that has been closed for 10 years, or get suspicious of the couple who is oddly always happy, or get irritated when the main character is not able to pick clues in front of him/her.

Just from turning pages, we experience an adrenaline rush building up. What makes thriller novels more interesting are the author’s romantic elements. Romance and thrillers are a perfect match for any reader into these genres. The combination of the two makes romance darker and thrillers interesting.

When experimenting with different genres to know my type, thrillers were the only ones that caught my interest. And what made my interest enthusiastic was the romantic elements I found reading.

Here is the list of thriller novels mashed up with romance I read when I first started reading and would always recommend to readers who are still experimenting.

1. The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

Alicia has a life everyone wishes for. She lives healthily, happily, and very comfortably. But everything changes one night when she commits the murder of the man she loves and was married to and refuses to talk after that incident. Theo Faber, a criminal psychotherapist, desperately wants her to be his patient, but he is unaware that the truth might consume him.

The Silent Patient is a gripping psychological thriller novel with a huge plot twist that feels like a slap on the face. It contains everything – suspense, romance, bonding, connection, and destroying truths. It will leave you confused but resolved at the same time…isn’t that weird?

2. One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus

One afternoon five students of Bayview High walk into detention. An intelligent one, a beauty, the criminal, the athlete, and the notorious loser who is the creator of Bayview High’s gossip app.

Only the loser doesn’t get out of detention because he died. When police were involved, the others learned that this wasn’t any accident but murder. Simon was planning on revealing some information about the other four students the next day, making them all suspects in his murder.

This novel clearly shows what teens might suffer in school and how sometimes, due to pressure, they make some wrong decisions. Readers encounter a love story, heartbreak, and a surprise reveal throughout the novel. This one also has a twist: readers might never see it coming.

3. We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

The Sinclair family is all about perfection. No member of the family is ill or bad-mannered or weak. There is a proud father of three beautiful daughters who have their own beautiful kids. Every summer, the family goes to the private island, but something happens one summer which breaks the Sinclair family.

It’s a story about Cadence Sinclair, her two cousins, and a boy she loves. It’s a novel about sisters, family, friends, and love. And it’s a short novel with beautiful writing and a plot twist that might shatter your heart.

4. Verity by Colleen Hoover

Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer dealing with the financial crisis. But an unexpected opportunity lands her a job writing to complete Verity Crawford’s abandoned novels after her injury. Verity’s husband, Jeremy, hires her.

What Lowen doesn’t expect to find are secrets. Secrets so deep that they shock her and her perception of the women who left them. Lowen and Jeremy are getting closer, but one big secret might destroy everything. Can she keep her heart safe while navigating between these secrets?

CoHo is always known for romantic novels, but this thriller is something that every Coho fan needed but didn’t know how much. Yes, it is totally worth the read (zips lips and throws away the key.)

5. The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine

Amber Patterson is a clever woman. She is fed up from her boring life where she always disappears in the background. All she wants is money, power, and fame. She wants to lead a life exactly like Daphne Parrish.

Daphne and Jackson Parrish are the couple everyone admires. Daphne, no doubt, was the prettiest lady, and Jackson was equally handsome, powerful, and rich.

Amber, on the other hand, plans to destroy this lovely couple by immersing herself in Daphne’s life and getting close to her husband, Jackson Parrish. She might succeed in her evil and envious plan, but it would make her life hell if she only knew.

The novel is written from Amber’s and Daphne’s point of view. Full of drama, plotting, and schemes, it’s a total page-turner that keeps the reader guessing until the end.

The best thing about thrillers is that they show you the dark side of love. They alter your perspective toward the world and make you clever enough to deal with it smartly.

Every story is different in this list. They all have twists, romance, and drama, but they will get you hooked. Which will make you fall in love with romance thrillers.
